stretching 7-9-19  is a medium scale figure study on 200gms paper using mixed media. Painted with a muted neutral palette contrasting with areas of vibrant colour. The use of fluid mediums such as inks, watercolours and acrylics allows for a certain element of chance during the process. Produced quickly using expressive marks and stains. Giving them an ‘imperfect’ or vulnerable feel, which in turn gives the work an exciting vitality and energy.  It continues my interest in the presentation and concepts of beauty. We are increasingly exposed to countless images of the manipulated perfection of the human form. This work is a counterbalance to this through the use of uneven surface textures, stains and blotches of paint. Creating an awkward imperfection or flawed beauty.

stretching 7-9-19 address the representation of traditional painting motifs such as the portrait and nude. Informed by popular cultural references from fashion, advertising media and television and further influenced by the work of Francis Bacon, Egon Schiele, Francisco Goya and the illustrator Ralph Steadman.

stretching 7-9-19 is representational but intends to suggest rather than depict an accurate observation. This is more apparent as the viewer approaches the work. The painted surface dissolves into a seemingly unorganised arrangement of blotches and irregular textures.

Artwork signed and titled on the front and includes a certificate of authenticity.
